Electrosurgery is the application of a high-frequency (Rf) alternating polarity, electrical current to biological tissue as a means to cut, coagulate, dessicate, or fulgurate tissue particle.
ESU’s (Electrosurgical unit), by contrast, uses radio frequency (RF) alternating current to heat the tissue by RF induced oscillation at a frequency more than 300 KHz of molecules that results in increase of temperature and produce heating to a certain level which produces heat to the tissue, instantaneous cell death occurs.

All RF electrosurgery is bipolar so the difference between monopolar and bipolar instruments is that monopolar instruments comprise only one electrode while bipolar instruments include both electrodes in their design.
